Online application - What happens next?

  • After you've submitted your application we will send you an email to confirm that we have received it.  This will be sent to the email address provided in the application form.
  • Following this we will email you again to confirm our decision on your application.  This generally happens within a few minutes of submitting your application.
  • If your application is unsuccessful, we will send you a first class letter confirming this, which will provide further information about our decision.
  • If you have been accepted for your loan, we will send your credit agreement by first class post, which you will need to sign and return in the enclosed envelope. You may be asked to provide further identification or account information, which will also have to be returned to us along with your signed agreement.  If we do not receive all the information requested or the documents aren't signed, this will delay the payout of your loan.
  • When we receive your signed credit agreement with any additional information (where requested) we will normally process your agreement on the day we receive it and your loan funds will be available in your Santander bank account the following day. If you have requested we pay your loan funds to a different bank (not Santander), we will transfer the funds by BACS which could take up to 4 working days.
  • Once your Personal Loan account is opened you'll receive a welcome letter which confirms your loan account number.

Why can't you open an account for me?

Our decision not to provide you with a Personal Loan was made by using a system called Credit Scoring. Credit scoring takes into account information you have provided to us, any we may already hold about you and any obtained from credit reference agencies.

If you would like to know more about the decision process, you may want to read our leaflet; Your application and credit scoring

If you'd like a copy of the information held about you by the credit reference agency, you can contact them at:

You will need to give them all the names that you've been known by, along with your date of birth and details of your current and previous addresses for the past 6 years.  If you contact any of the agencies, please note you need to ask for your statutory credit report and each bureau charge a nominal fee for providing this.

Please be aware the information provided by the credit reference agencies is only one part of the decision-making process. Sometimes, there may be no detrimental information held about you at the agency but we may not be able to accept an application simply because it does not meet our current business criteria.
